OOC Intro/February Plotting Post!

Hello everyone, and welcome to Route 666 and our first OOC Intro and Mingle post! We're going to experiment with also having this double as our February Plotting Post! (Depending on player feedback, we may split this into two separate posts! Or leave it as is!)

UPDATE: AC REWARDS

To celebrate the first TDM being a success, all accepted players/characters will get one free AC Reward Point from whichever 5 comment thread they chose for their sample! People can also turn in additional 5 comment threads for more points, up to four more threads (with any number of comments in them) for extra rewards. In addition, you may also utilize any TDM prompts/events in the story log! (And likewise, you may do this up to four times!)

This is a one time occurrence and applies only for the January TDM.

FEBRUARY EVENT

INTO THE WOODS
After acquiring vehicles, Drifters will be hitting the road and navigating a dense forest. A road snakes through the trees, and sometimes vehicles can jump offroad and weave between the trees.

Drifters will encounter various hazards and rewards in these woods. These include:
+Haunted Groves that try to lure Drifters in to ensnare them for plant food. These trees can even reverse a transformation on Drifters, but will try to also lull Drifters into a sense of security so they can be ensnared on noose like vines, or get absorbed into the tree trunks.
+Wrecked Cars that hide assorted traps in the form of snares and fear toxin. There are also strange robot dogs called chromehounds stalking the wreckage, and are programmed to attack anyone displaying monster traits.
+Pockets of Magic dotting the road. These stasis pockets try to freeze Drifters, but are dispelled by Sigils with explosive results; sudden bursts of elemental magic tend to burst out as the fields get destroyed. Some of the stasis pockets dot the roads, and need to be burst. Vehicles can also help shield Drifters from the after effects, or quickly get them out of harm’s way.
+Moon Shrines scattered around the forest, with offerings on their altars and prayers written on their surfaces. Many of them contain the Silver Tears records on monsters, from the info pages. More pragmatic Drifters can also take the offered items from the altars… But this causes the candles to ignite, and burn hands and arms, leaving behind either a monster change, or burning a passage of text across the skin that slowly fades out over the month. This will also be our first RNG event with the text. We will have a sign up form below where we'll be distributing some lore via rolls! (Please note we are limiting this to one bit of lore per character, to keep things manageable!)

The exploration of the forest culminates in a strange ruin, a cross between a radio tower and a cabin in the woods. Once there, the Convoy experiences its first Moon Warp. Reality grows fluid, monsters burst to life from Husks in the forests, and Drifters will find their monster forms being called out to.

During the moon warp, Drifters will have two options:
1. Hide in the Convoy behind the shields, and thus avoid the worst of the Moon Warp and transformations. Things might be scary on the outside, but it’s possible to get a measure of peace indoors… Though they’ll need to make company with everyone else hiding inside.
2. Face the Moon Warp and the monsters head on, and thus enjoy a full fledged monster transformation and potentially a berserk state. It’s a brawl outside the Convoy shields, with other Husk monsters, and even chromehounds honing in on the warp and trying to slay all monsters. It’s chaotic, violent, and Drifters will need to burn a lot of energy to survive. By the end of the Warp they’ll be able to return to normal… Or possibly stay in a weakened monstrous state until events in March.

And that is our route planned for the month! We hope you enjoy this event, and feel free to plan in the comments below!

SecUnit/Murderbot | The Murderbot Diaries

INFO!
Player Name: Ptero

RP STUFF!
Character Name: SecUnit! Or Murderbot but that's private
Canon: The Murderbot Diaries
Character Info: Opt-out/Permissions link!

What if you gave a boston dynamics bot a human brain and the capacity to feel depression and anxiety, then put guns in its arms. But then in exchange you also let it watch tv to self-soothe. You'd get a Murderbot!

SecUnit (or Eden as it introduced itself to some people) is a bot-human construct built for security. It was an accidental instrument in mass murder when a security patch went wrong, so it hacked its way free of the systems of the Company it was built for, and then proceeded to do its job for a couple years anyway, but while sneakily watching a bunch of serials on the side. Then someone decided to kill it and its clients, and it accidentally got started on a long, messy trip to self-actualization that involved making totally-not-friends with a hyperintelligent spaceship and a bunch of scientists, fighting a few corporate assassins, and getting kidnapped by a bunch of people infected with an alien hivemind. It's had a rough few weeks (months. years.) that's not about to get better.

It's asocial and intensely awkward about a lot of things, can often come across as threatening, both intentionally and not, and would love nothing more than to be left alone with its shows except it keeps being surrounded by squishy humans who need help not dying.
Monster Plans:  Swarm! Appearance-wise, I'm probably going to borrow inspiration from a carolina mantis - nothing flashy, but still a predator. it's still going to stay bipedal, with most of the initial changes coming in the form of chitin plating and mandibles, that it can do its best to hide for a little while.

Eventually it's going to regain the mantis claw from the TDM, and some of the enhanced senses/abilities from the Swarm - abilities that it's used to relying on its inorganic parts for. The change is going to leave it definitely unsettled. Eventually I'll add on some of the psychological changes, but for now it'll mostly be a physical transformation.
Event Plans: While the SecUnit isn't one to investigate Shrines of its own volition and thus probably won't take an initiative that leads to it taking the Shrine offerings and therefore getting the inscription, it will absolutely lend a hand with others who are looking to explore the forest! Particularly if they might be vulnerable to monsters on their own.

For the same reason, it'll be throwing itself headlong into the Moon Warp, and will face the consequences for that. One of its current paranoid obsessions is being eaten by hostile monsters, so it might get itself into some trouble if a flashback comes on at an inopportune moment during that fight.

If you need a pathetic human to keep out of danger while investigating, I have a very pathetic one for you.

It could totally see Waver going out into the woods without some hint of visible weaponry and decide to attach itself to the stupid human who's trying to get killed, lol. Please don't walk two feet into a poison trap

He's dealt with worse than a poison trap. It'll be fine!

...He has the self preservation skills of Ratthi because he literally has lived through so many disasters that he just doesn't care anymore. The chaos may as well happen. Please save him from himself, Eden.

Just because you've been nearly killed twenty times doesn't mean you need to add another to the list Waver

He'll try to remember that next time he needs to pick a fight with a god-like being.

Levi pings SecUnit as a fellow soldier so its probably stuck with him. He doesn't understand pronouns, though, so SecUnit will have to correct him and possibly explain which sounds kinda interesting to me

Levi cannot promise to stop trying to get himself killed though, sorry not sorry

it will be the most unhelpful explainer so that's its revenge as far as retaliating for Levi keeping fighting.

That and it maybe putting itself in harm's way sometimes

I meaant to tag SecUnit on the TDM, but got swamped between existing threads and another TDM. THAT BEING SAID, this lad has a history involving murder and being used by other people and I think that could make for an interesting CR opportunity.

I could see a possible encounter during investigation or maybe Moon Warp shenanigans. o:

No prob!

Depending what Akechi is investigating, for sure - MB probably isn't going to go near the Moon Shrines, though it doesn't have much experience of people just doing casual magic, so maybe the stasis pockets?
